A terrific roster of talented golf instructors is now at the helm of the John Webster Golf Academy at The Breakers, led by John Webster, Director of Golf Instruction at the legendary Palm Beach oceanfront resort. All of the individuals are highly skilled teachers who bring solid experience to our links from signature courses around the country. Players of all levels will benefit from their tutelage, whether in group or private lesson format, or for memorable corporate outings and clinics.

| | John Webster, Director of Golf Instruction | ||||||||||||
John joined The Breakers in 2005 with the goal of developing and implementing his system of the “Total Package Golf,” a method including world-class instruction, club fitting, fitness, mental approach and course management. As a PGA Class-A Professional, John has earned numerous accreditations from the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) – he is a TPI Certified Fitness Professional, Titleist Prominent Club Fitter and Titleist Leadership Advisor. John has instructed golfers of all skill levels from beginners to PGA Tour Champions. Noteworthy students have included a U.S. Open Champion, U.S. Amateur Champion and a NCAA Champion. Most recently, John was named the South Florida PGA Teacher of the Year for the Chapter in 2010 and South East Section in 2011. Prior to joining The Breakers, John had extensive tenures with the Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland and the Jim McLean Golf Schools. He spent eight years teaching at the Jim McLean Golf School in Miami, during which time he designed the Jim McLean Learning Center in Michigan and then became Director of Instruction for two years, eventually overseeing all of the McLean Schools as Vice President of Operations for McLean Enterprises. His nine-year run at Caves Valley included six years as Director of Golf Instruction. After graduating from Loyola College where he played collegiate golf, John played the Australian/Asian Tour and a number of Florida mini-tours. John continues to mentor other PGA professionals worldwide by combining club fitting techniques, fitness and technical instruction. He has traveled most recently through England, Scotland, Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands training European Professionals on such techniques and continues to do so across the U.S. | |||||||||||||
| | Kevin Compare, Teaching Professional | ||||||||||||
A golf professional since 1981, Kevin has been a member of the PGA of America since 1986. As a certified PGA Master Professional in Instruction, Kevin has participated as the lead instructor for many of the PGA’s playing and teaching workshops and continues to serve on the PGA of America’s faculty for Specialty Certification in Instruction and Professional Golf Management. A former Director of Instruction for PGA of America’s Learning Center from 1999 to 2003, Kevin was also Director of Instruction at the Total Performance Golf School in Pinehurst, North Carolina, for four years. A world-renowned trick shot artist, Kevin placed third in the 2005 World Championship and has taught and performed at more than 1,600 exhibitions around the U.S. and overseas. He was one of the Top 50 golf instructors in Florida and nominated three times as a Top 100 Teacher in America Golf Magazine. Kevin is the education chairman of the SEC South Florida section and has received the PGA Horton Smith Award, as well as the South Florida Section PGA Horton Smith Award. Notable students include U.S. Women’s Open Champion, Senior Amateur Champions of Mexico, New Zealand, Bermuda, Canada and Europe. Kevin has conducted more than 50,000 hours of instruction. | |||||||||||||

A native of Miami, FL, Richard grew up attending the Jim McLean Golf School where he studied under John Webster and their staff of instructors. He attended Florida International University in Miami on a full Golf Scholarship, where he launched his professional career in 2000 after being named a three-time First Team All-Conference player. Currently in his fifth year at The Breakers resort, Richard has been competing on various mini-tour circuits including the Nationwide Tour, Gateway Tour, South American Tour, Asian Tour and the Minor League Golf Tour. Career highlights include shooting a Course Record 63 at Weston Hills Country Club during a U.S. Open local qualifier while earning low medalist honors. Richard is the winner of the 2010 and 2011 Grey Goose Palm Beach Open. He also placed second in the National Assistants Championship in 2011. Prior to coming to The Breakers, Richard was an Assistant Golf Professional for two years at the Bridge Golf Club in Bridgehampton, NY. | |||||||||||||

Dan is a native of Palm Beach County and has been with The Breakers since 2006. He received a Golf Scholarship to attend Johnson and Wales University in North Miami, where he played for legendary coach Dave Adamonis. Dan’s titles include the 2007 Florida State Team Championship where he earned low individual medalist honors. He volunteers with the Palm Beach Junior Golf Association and excels with helping junior golfers. Dan is a second generation PGA Professional; his father is a past president of the South Florida PGA and a member of the South Florida PGA Hall of Fame. | |||||||||||||

A PGA member since 1979, George has invested many years honing his skills as a golf professional. With more than 22 years of experience at premier clubs in Illinois, his exceptional skill as a golf instructor culminated when the Illinois PGA Chapter voted him Teacher of the Year in 2000. A former Master Instructor for 10 years at PGA National’s Academy of Golf, George studied under the tutelage of Top 50 Instructor Mike Adams. He is a certified TPI Fitness Professional and certified AimPoint Instructor. Prior to joining The Breakers, George was Director of Golf at the Country Club of Decatur in Decatur, IL, and Shoreacres, another premier club facility in Lake Bluff, IL. Most recently, he has completed his sixth season as Director of Golf at Harborside International, a top 100 club in Chicago. | |||||||||||||

Del returned to The Breakers in 2010 after playing professionally since 2003, where he won eight times on the Gateway Tour and participated in a number of PGA and Nationwide Tour events. For the past three seasons, Del has been the Director of Instruction at Hudson National Golf Club, a top 100 facility in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. As a student at the University of Maryland, he was the number one ranked player during his four years and was voted to the 1994 NCAA Division I All-American golf team, as well as the prestigious All-Atlantic Coast conference team. As an amateur, Del won the Maryland State Open in 1992 and was a member of the 1994 U.S. Amateur golf team in Japan. He has instructed PGA Professional Ken Green, NBA basketball player Alan Houston, NHL player Brandon Dubinsky and baseball’s MVP, Larry Walker. Prior to playing on tour and becoming a full time instructor, he spent six years at The Breakers as an apprentice to Golf Digest Top 25 Golf Instructor Todd Anderson. | |||||||||||||
| | Meghan Mahoney, Teaching Professional | ||||||||||||
Meghan turned professional in 2009 after an impressive amateur career. She played collegiate golf at Memphis where she helped lead the team to a conference championship. Meghan spent several years working at Miacomet Golf Course, Nantucket, MA, assisting with the junior program and three seasons as a full time instructor working for Phillip Truono. She also spent a year and a half competing in Florida mini-tour events and working at a Troon golf facility in Orlando. Meghan is returning to The Breakers for her second season and is known for her enthusiasm and positive attitude. | |||||||||||||

A native of White Plains, NY, Frank has been a PGA member since 1996. Prior to returning to The Breakers for his second year, Frank has honed his professional golf skills at some of the finest clubs in the New York area such as Century Country Club and Winged Foot Golf Club. As an instructor at Century Country Club in Purchase, NY, Frank made a name for himself as one of the Metropolitan area’s finest teachers and players. He was runner up in the 2009 PGA Professional National Player of the Year and 2005 PGA Metropolitan Section Player of the Year and has held the title of every major pro event in the Metropolitan area. He is currently the 2011 Connecticut Open Champion, the 2010 and 2011 National Assistants Champion and the 2011 National PGA Stroke Play Champion. | |||||||||||||

Joining the John Webster Golf Academy team for his first year is Tracy, a Certified PGA Member and TPI Golf Fitness Instructor who earned an honors degree in economics while competing on the University of Cincinnati Men's golf team. Tracy has a diverse work history with focus on golf instruction while at The Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest, IL, in 2005 and at Somerset Hills Country Club in Bernardsville, NJ, from 2008-2010. While at Somerset Hills he served as a member of the New Jersey PGA Section. Tracy also spent two seasons consulting during 2006-2007 as certified golf club fitting expert for Titleist serving California, Arizona and the northeast. In 2011, he joined the Nantucket Golf Academy in Nantucket, MA, as a PGA teaching professional and will return for the summer in 2012. | |||||||||||||

Currently the Director of Instruction at the Oyster Harbors Club in Osterville, MA, John joined the John Webster Golf Academy this year. Elected to PGA membership in January of 2003, he received his PGA advanced certification of instruction in April of 2010 and a few months later, was named Top 50 U.S. Kids Instructor. He has successfully led and grown the instructional programs at his facility by making the learning process exciting for players of all ages. John’s teaching career began in Charleston, SC, and further developed while working at Congressional Country Club, home of the 1997 and 2010 U.S. Open. | |||||||||||||

A Class-A PGA member and TPI certified instructor, Sarah has spent 11 years teaching in Florida and in New York. Sarah joined the John Webster Golf Academy at The Breakers this year and comes to us most recently from the Everglades Club in Palm Beach. She began playing golf when she was 16-years-old, and played on the collegiate team at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI. After graduating from college, she began to pursue her passion of teaching by working in the summers at Westchester Country Club, Woodway Country Club and Trump National in Briarcliff Manor, NY. Before joining The Breakers, Sarah spent winters in Florida working at Wycliffe Golf and Country Club and Emerald Dunes. Over the years, she has spent a great deal of time observing and studying many of the games’ top golf instructors across the U.S. | |||||||||||||

Originally from New Haven, CN, Colin has been a PGA member since 2001. Colin comes to The Breakers this year from White Plains, NY, where he is the teaching professional at Metropolis Country Club during the summer. Career highlights include former assistant player of the year in the Connecticut PGA and Metropolitan PGA. He is the two-time winner of the Westchester PGA and also played in the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. Colin is the winner of the 2004 Panama Open and 2008 Metropolitan PGA Championship. | |||||||||||||
