About The Breakers
Going Green
In an effort to assist in the conservation and protection of Florida's natural resources, The Breakers has committed to working with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to implement environmental or "green" practices as part of the Florida Green Lodging Program.
The Florida Green Lodging Program is a voluntary effort initiated by the (FDEP) to encourage the lodging industry to assist in the conservation and protection of Florida's natural resources.
In an effort to meet the standards required to receive certification from the FDEP, The Breakers has been working diligently to implement environmentally-sound programs to conserve and preserve our environment.
Examples of our efforts include:
Energy Conservation
- Energy-efficient light bulbs used throughout the property
- Energy Star rated electronics and appliances
- Purchase of renewable energy to reduce our carbon footprint by offsetting 50% of our electrical energy use.
Water Conservation
- Deep water well and water plant, located on the property, to convert undrinkable water to irrigation water for the Ocean Golf Course
- Low-flow toilets throughout the resort
Waste Reduction
- Recycling containers located throughout the property
- 30% post-consumer recycled content products used throughout the resort
Clean Air Practices
- Use of environmentally preferable cleaners
- UVC devices in air-handlers to eradicate bacteria, viruses and mold
