Iconic concept and island’s clubby legacy welcomes a new generation of players
PALM BEACH, FL – Located in The Breaker’s Ocean Golf and Tennis Clubhouse, just across the road from the picturesque Main Drive, Flagler Steakhouse is a vibrant take on the classic American chophouse. After many years as Palm Beach’s best-kept-secret among in-the-know locals and food and wine enthusiasts, a modern rendition of this classic steakhouse re-emerged late 2013 with the vibe of a timeless social club, while broadening its excellent culinary reputation for sensational steak and much, much more.
Flagler Steakhouse is a refreshing interpretation of the traditional, masculine spirit with a twist of Palm Beach prep, putting a contemporary, lighthearted spin on the island’s clubby legacy – a celebration of a time-honored tradition. Its air of exclusivity cleverly plays on its location, yet the restaurant remains open to the public with convenient access right off South County Road. The members-only feeling is evident upon arrival, as guests driving up are warmly greeted by the valet on-site and know they’re in the right place.
After introducing its successful lounge concept, HMF, the resort re-enlisted celebrated designer Adam D. Tihany to re-imagine the traditional steakhouse as a youthful retreat with an irresistible new spirit. As with his multiple collaborations with The Breakers, he acted as design consultant to Peacock + Lewis Architects and fashioned dynamic new interiors that blend old school luxury and contemporary comforts.
Located on the second floor of the Clubhouse, Flagler Steakhouse also features outdoor terrace seating that is fully climate-controlled, so guests may enjoy the soothing ocean breezes and panoramic views of the golf course below year-round – it’s the only place of its kind in Palm Beach that offers al fresco dining with air conditioning, heat and added protection from wind and rain, to keep diners utterly comfortable and content no matter the weather. Inside just off the main room, a private dining room hosts up to 18 guests in a secluded setting.
Open daily for lunch and dinner, as well as Sunday Brunch, Flagler Steakhouse not only entices loyal and new followings of steakhouse enthusiasts with flawlessly prepared steaks, but lures their friends, family and colleagues who desire other mouthwatering choices (Italian favorites, fish and shellfish, broiler items, savory sides and salads), serious cocktails and incredible Master Sommelier-selected wines. A custom playlist of classic and remixed jazz hits injects even more sophistication and allure into the luminous clubhouse atmosphere, and provides guests with an ideal musical backdrop to complement – not compete with – their company and conversation.
In addition to a variety of signature meat cuts such as New York Strip, Bone-in Filet Mignon, Rib Eye, including a selection of dry aged versions, the extensive yet diverse menu by Executive Chef – Restaurants Anthony Sicignano also includes shellfish and finfish such as Pan Roasted Chilean Sea Bass, as well as oysters, clams, and stone crabs in season; Italian favorites like Veal Milanese and Jumbo Shrimp Scampi and Linguine; classic broiler items such as Rack of Colorado Lamb and South African Lobster Tails, great appetizers and salads including Jumbo Lump Crabmeat Louie and Kale Salad with Figs, Aged Provolone, Sweet Onions sand a Warm Linguica Dressing, and savory sides. Sunday Brunch selections span the spectrum from classics including the Steakhouse Burger and Grilled Prime NY Strip and Farm Eggs to the decadent Bananas Foster French Toast. Vegetarian and gluten free options are also available in addition to a dedicated children’s menu. Every dish incorporates the freshest, seasonal ingredients and the highest quality organic or locally sourced items whenever possible.
The restaurant exclusively utilizes Linz Heritage Angus Prime (the top 2% of all beef, highest level of USDA prime grade), the finest selection of pure-bred, black Angus from esteemed distributor Linz Meats, who personally works with their producers and farmers, so they are uniquely familiar with where their cattle is raised, and attune to how it is fed and harvested. Linz-sourced corn and vegetarian-fed cattle is produced in a relatively small Midwest region that encompasses western Wisconsin to eastern Nebraska, and central Minnesota to northern Missouri, ensuring a very unique, consistent and high-end product – hand-picked and hand-cut, and trimmed according to The Breakers’ stringent specs.
A phenomenal bar program features hand-crafted, classic cocktails as well as tantalizing creations by a team of drink experts. Favorites include the Three B’s (Wild Turkey Honey Bourbon, Coppertail IPA, and Honeycomb) and the St. Petersburg Mule (Russian Standard “Platinum” Vodka, Lime Juice, Fever Tree Ginger Beer).
The extensive and highly acclaimed wine list has been curated by The Breakers’ Master Sommeliers Virginia Philip and Juan Gomez (who today carry the legacy of retaining the Wine Spectator Grand Award, a revered industry accolade which the resort has earned since the award’s inception in 1981), in tandem with Flagler Steakhouse head sommelier Cassandra Felix. Sourced from The Breakers 32,000-bottle collection, the wine selections perfectly complement the multi-faceted menu to ensure that every guest – whether an oenophile or simply looking for a great pairing – is completely satisfied.
The sharp, chicly dressed staff dons a custom-designed wardrobe by FOURMY (the Luxury Brand of Cintas), glamorous hair and make-up, with styles created by Palm Beach’s Frederic Fekkai salon and The Breakers’ very own Guerlain make-up artists. All the sensory ingredients of the restaurant – from delectable dishes and fantastic drinks, to the aesthetics of music, beauty and fashion, to the warmth and hospitality of the genuinely friendly staff – seamlessly integrate into an exciting new steakhouse experience.
Tihany’s Design Brief
Knowing the vital role of re-design to transform Flagler Steakhouse into a timeless social club, Tihany created vibrant interiors that blend preppy-luxe style and modern comforts. Within this stunning rendition of the traditional steakhouse, he reconfigured the layout to instill the restaurant with a more engaging and stylish atmosphere (in contrast with its previous, more sedate incarnation).
From the cozy downstairs lobby, accented by an inviting fireplace, guests ascend the stairs towards the restaurant entrance, where they encounter a master sommelier-selected wine collection housed in distinctive wood and glass wine cabinets. The dining room is aglow in a luxurious palette of red, white and blue, with gilded accents and intriguing details throughout the room, such as the carpet’s bold chain-link pattern; classic, two-toned striped wall covering, custom furniture and artful pops of color. Brass and frosted glass pendant chandeliers, along with walnut and cherry wood finishes on the expanded, original woodwork, amplify the feeling of nestling into an exclusive luxury lair. A witty collection of colorized artwork features the motif of ranch-hand culture. Comfortable seating invites a leisurely experience at table, and chairs in a streamlined design facilitate a feeling of ease.
