Jet Dental - Mobile Services

PERSONAL WELLNESS

Each quarter, The Breakers welcomes Jet Dental to provide mobile oral healthcare for team members and their spouses. This fully-functional, pop-up office features private dental stations, preventive cleanings and x-rays with DDS-certified doctors, comprehensive exams, cavity fillings and so much more. Employees are able to improve their dental health during work hours without the hassle of attending a traditional dentist – mobile dental care also eliminates the extra time allocated to driving, parking and waiting rooms. “This was an absolutely amazing experience. It was smooth, easy and I felt really comfortable,” shared one Breakers’ team member. “I would definitely do this again - my teeth feel brand new,” he continued. “Employee dental care should be part of every company’s investment to keep team members healthy and happy,” said Jordan Smith, CEO of Jet Dental. “The Mayo Clinic has suggested in recent studies that oral care is a window to a person’s overall health; gum disease and other issues can lead to more serious illnesses, hospital visits and debilitated health. Preventive maintenance is key,” he continued.

Team members and spouses on The Breakers’ medical plan can earn a $600 savings on their annual insurance premium by completing a biometric screening. Employees are encouraged to know their numbers, evaluate their strengths and risks, and drive personal lifestyle changes. ON-SITE

Wellness Clinic The Breakers On-site Wellness Clinic Operated by Premier provides team members with biometric screenings, health coaching, body composition analysis, vitals checks, flu vaccinations and more. The clinic is staffed by a nurse practitioner and registered nurse and is equipped with a full lab, private consultation office and conference room. “The Breakers On-site Wellness Clinic is incredibly convenient,” said a Breakers’ Team Member. “It has a private entrance and office space, making it feel like such a premium workplace amenity. My husband and I went to get our annual biometric screenings; the setting was clean and comfortable, and the service top-notch. The nurses were extremely attentive to our needs; we truly felt cared for,” she continued.

After a biometric screening, a male team member was diagnosed with hyperlipidemia and obesity. Five months later, after improving his diet, making healthier choices and adding a consistent exercise regimen to his daily routine, the team member was able to lose 24 lbs. His blood pressure is now in the healthy range, and his BMI improved from obesity to overweight; the team member reported increased energy and that he is feeling better than ever. A male patient recently lost 18 lbs. by increasing his exercise frequency and improving his diet over the span of six months. His prediabetes fasting glucose is now in normal range and his hbA1C improved from 5.9 to 5.7 with repeat labs done by his primary healthcare provider (PCP). His blood pressure also improved, and his PCP was able to remove one of two blood pressure medications being prescribed. The team member is thankful for the guidance provided by the clinic’s health coach, and now reports he has more energy to play basketball with his son.

OnSpot Dermatology Recognizing that preventative exams are key to identifying potential health risks, The Breakers debuted a new partnership with OnSpot Dermatology - a comprehensive mobile practice that makes it convenient for employees to receive a complete range of dermatology care while at work. This offering provides general cosmetic and surgical procedures, including skin cancer screenings and Mohs surgery, in a portable medical clinic that sets up on the resort’s property. Team members make appointments during scheduled shifts, and they appreciate the time saved by bringing a medical staff to their place of employment. This service has been wildly popular and valued by a South Florida workforce that resides in America’s sunshine State; 100% of appointments are filled within 24 hours of announcing each organized session. “Scheduling an appointment and visiting the mobile clinic for my annual skin checkup could not have been easier,” said one Breakers’ Team Member. “Since moving to South Florida, I have struggled to find a quality dermatologist in my area, so I was delighted that our benefits team had arranged an on-site opportunity that I could attend during work hours. The medical staff was attentive and knowledgeable, which immediately put me at ease. DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION & BELONGING (DEIB) Employee Resource Groups (ERG): Parents Corner Voluntarily led by team members, ERG’s bring employees together who share common characteristics, whether gender, ethnicity, religious affiliation, lifestyle, personal interest or other. Each group’s mission is to continue the advancement of a diverse, inclusive workplace by creating a safe space where employees can bring their whole selves to the table. Recognizing that mothers, fathers and guardians sometimes need support while juggling dual roles of parent and employee, The Breakers developed and implemented Parents Corner to help colleagues balance work, life and caregiving demands. The group brings together new and experienced parents to share personal stories, challenges and referrals, as well as exchange parenting ideas, advice, information and resources. Participants in the group are reassured to learn that their concerns are not unique, finding kinship, camaraderie and comfort whether raising infants, small children, teenagers or young adults.

“It has been so rewarding to connect with other team members following the launch of the Parents Corner Resource Group. I’ve personally enjoyed learning about my fellow working parents and their families, especially since many of us do not cross paths during our typical workdays. English as a Second Language (ESL) To continuously enhance The Breakers’ DEIB initiatives, ESL was designed to offer language training for team members in a friendly, welcoming and supportive environment. Fostering better communication, this course allows individuals the opportunity to practice language and presentation skills, for use in life and on the job. Benefits include: • Improved listening, speaking and understanding skills • More confidence and self-sufficiency • Greater sense of inclusion • Improved knowledge of business operations, company policies, health & safety practices and more • Personal development and professional growth opportunities Each eight-week class series is led by an internal facilitation team made up of nine associates. Students participate during paid work time for two hours a week. A total of 15 employees are currently enrolled in ESL, which continues to grow.

“I am originally from Haiti and have been with The Breakers for five years, working with the Golf & Grounds Team. I am responsible for the landscaping florals. After completing the ESL series, I am now better able to communicate with guests and my employer. Also, I learned how to better pronounce English words and complete sentences on my own. Wellness Program for Team Members of Color with Dr. Nicola Finley This comprehensive 3 - 4 month course is designed to deliver an educational experience and personalized plan that supports the health equity of team members of color. A confidential biometric screening provides tracked, measurable outcomes to help prevent chronic disease, while interactive workshops, evidence-based seminars, experiential activities, and one-on-one consultations/coaching sessions empower team members to recognize and discuss actionable steps toward optimal wellness. Team members participate during paid work hours and are encouraged to prioritize their health, making a positive impact in areas such as nutrition, exercise, spirituality, sleep and more.

NEW IN 2023 Over the last year, thanks in part to Dr. Finley’s Program, the wellness incentive participation rate from our African American employee population increased from 48 to 68%. These individuals now benefit from understanding their key health metrics while engaging in personalized one-on-one health coaching sessions with Dr. Finley and the on-site wellness coach at no cost. To enhance further, The Breakers is adding a refresher course to its curriculum and will be extending participation to all employees next year. “You know what to do, but when you have someone to encourage you, you see more progress,” said one participant. “This program has opened my eyes to how important focusing on my overall health is; I learned a lot about my body, which will help me live longer and much better,” he continued. “This program has motivated me to lose weight and keep it off, doing more for my health. When I tried to do this in the past by myself, I was unsuccessful. Dr. Finley and the Wellness Clinic have helped me understand my cholesterol and other blood work numbers, which saves lives.” said another participant.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)

Mental Health is Everyone’s Business

Empowering managers to increase their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual energy capacities, this in-depth training educates and encourages participants to achieve their ultimate mission and maximize personal and professional performance.

The Breakers has established a robust partnership with Ferd & Gladys Alpert Jewish Family Services - a non-profit, non-sectarian organization - to provide MHFA training to the resort’s team of managers. MHFA teaches critical communication and support skills that empower participants to identify and extend initial assistance to individuals who show signs of mental health problems, or are experiencing a mental health crisis.

With one in five Americans suffering from some form of mental illness in their lifetime*, The Breakers recognized the need to expand mental health training to its entire employee population. In collaboration with Alpert JFS and as an extension of MHFA, Mental Health Is Everyone’s Business is a virtual training that raises awareness of the role mental well-being plays in both work and non-work lives, while reducing the stigma around mental health challenges and encouraging participants to help others by emphasizing self-care.

During each new-hire orientation, team members also complete Breakthrough to Energy - an extension of Corporate Athlete that teaches the benefits of nutrition and fitness to restore and expand one’s energy capacity.

Back-Up Care Advantage Program This resource helps team members effectively manage their work-life responsibilities by providing quality, back-up child or adult care when an unexpected need arises. Examples of family-support services offered include: unlimited free access to babysitting/nanny listings, specialty child-care pricing through network partners, tutoring and test prep discounts, access to pet care/ dog walking services and more.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Giving support during critical and potentially overwhelming times, EAP provides free, confidential counseling and concierge services to all team members and their families. THE SPIRIT OF GIVING

GIVES encourages team members to use work time to support local agencies through the use of Volunteer Time Off (VTO). Each year, full-time team members receive 16 hours of VTO (part-time employees receive 8-hours) to contribute time, energy and resources to non-profit partners of their choice. Various opportunities are shared based on preferred passions and interests. In addition, during orientation, new team members engage in a community service project with members of the Community Relations Team, which emphasizes the spirit of giving back at the heart of The Breakers and the importance of VTO.

Gives Ambassadors An extension of the Community Relations Team and nominated by leadership, each department’s GIVES Ambassador shares their passion for community service as they motivate and mobilize others to get involved in the many community outreach opportunities available.

Be Our Guest

Paul Leone Servant Leadership Day

Each year, Be Our Guest recognizes one outstanding volunteer from the community who dedicates their personal time, energy and resources to serving others. A recipient is chosen from a selection of nominations and is honored with an all-inclusive stay at the hotel.

This annual event honors the Servant Leadership Award bestowed to our CEO, Paul Leone, at the 2014 World Leaders Conference, emphasizing the importance of giving back as a core component of company culture. This year, The Breakers’ celebrated with ice cream for the team while supporting The Hands & Feet - an organization dedicated to providing emergency supplies for children who are removed from their home due to abuse or neglect and placed in foster care.

This year’s recipient was Mr. Eddie Rhodes from Take Stock in Children. A Belle Glade native, Mr. Rhodes has spent nearly 40 years working as a teacher and coach. He has been a mentor to 14 young men over the last 12 years through Take Stock in Children. Mr. Rhodes became a mentor due to a specific circumstance with a student who was falling behind in school and had experienced a family tragedy. He met with administrators, teachers, guidance counselors and the student’s parents to get him back on track. A year later, he managed to help the student improve his GPA and graduate high school on time. Mr. Rhodes is currently mentoring 6 young men. He does not hesitate to call parents, school staff and administrators to ensure his mentee’s needs are being met, and that the school, home and student are working together to improve the mentee’s overall quality of life.

Step Up For Students Scholarship Fund In the most recent 2022-2023 school year, The Breakers demonstrated its commitment to fostering educational opportunities by actively participating in a partnership with Step Up For Students, a state-approved funding organization in Florida. These scholarships provide financial assistance to families in Palm Beach County, enabling them to: • Personalize their child’s education, which includes specialists, curriculum, literacy programs, technology, even a college savings account and more • Attend a private school or cover transportation costs to access an alternative public school that differs from the one originally assigned • Place students in safer academic environments should they be bullied, harassed, assaulted, threatened and/or a victim of other violent acts at school More than one million scholarships are extended each year, which offer various avenues for educational support, catering to different needs and circumstances.

Giving Tuesday Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, this global generosity movement kicks off the holiday season. In 2022, the resort’s Senior Management Group served at Vita Nova, a non-profit that provides resources for teens who have aged out of the foster care system. Volunteers spent time gardening at the housing center.

Local Sourcement The Breakers proudly sources and serves essential produce from area farms during Florida’s growing season (November through May). The resort also strives to purchase fresh, locally-caught and responsibly-fished or farmed seafood.

Organic Herb Garden The Breakers cultivates a variety of herbs (basil, tarragon, rosemary and several variations of mint), as well as other naturally harvested ingredients on a year-round basis for use in the hotel’s 10 restaurants. The 2,000-squarefoot garden is a collaboration between the chefs and our landscaping and procurement teams, whose horticulture expertise and eco-friendly best practices produce an abundance of edible plants. These aromatic greens are 100% organically grown (no synthetic chemicals are used). Natural processes, such as composting, allow the food to flourish in harmony with the surrounding environment.

PARTNERSHIPS

This non-profit utilizes aquaponics to grow fresh produce and fish to combat food insecurity in South Florida. Over the course of the summer, Breakers’ volunteers helped harvest the produce which was donated to local food pantries.

Eminence Organic Skin Care® A select partner since 2017, The Spa at The Breakers is proud to feature Eminence Organic Skin Care®. For every product purchased for treatment and/or guest use, a new tree is planted and a percentage of proceeds supports Eminence Kids Foundation - providing healthy organic meals to kids with cancer. To date, 2,937 trees have been planted on behalf of The Breakers.

GSN Planet In 2022, The Breakers joined GSN Planet, a nonprofit trade association that provides education, resources and gatherings for the spa & wellness industry. Through this partnership, The Breakers fosters relationships and shares knowledge with other companies that strive to promote sustainability through responsible business practices, in addition to minimizing the environmental effects from operations. A Sustainability Status Report showcases comprehensive measurements across 13 categories, which include: Water Management, Energy Use, Waste Reduction, Laundry Processes and even Leadership & Community Connection. The Spa at The Breakers utilizes this tool to benchmark current efforts so that it may continuously improve and adapt its environmentallyfriendly initiatives. Surfrider Foundation The Surfrider Foundation is a grassroots, non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches. It provides restaurants with the tools and resources needed to make sustainable choices, which aid in the conservation of coastlines and marine ecosystems. All 10 restaurants within The Breakers’ dining collection are certified as Ocean Friendly. This coveted accreditation indicates that each establishment follows proper recycling and water conservation practices, features reusable tableware, and has discontinued the use of expanded polystyrene products and single-use plastics such as bags, straws and bottles. The Mang Foundation The Breakers partnered with The Mang Foundation to assist with their mangrove restoration project. Team members repotted young mangroves so they can be transported to Florida’s coast - which helps protect the state’s shorelines.

Clean The World

RECYCLING

Now more than ever, simple hand washing is vital to reduce the spread of infection and disease, which claim the lives of millions of people each year. Since 2011, Clean the World has recycled The Breakers’ partially used soaps and bottled amenities that would otherwise be discarded, and distributes them to domestic homeless shelters and impoverished countries experiencing health and hygiene disparities. This effort not only helps the global community, it protects the environment, reduces waste and preserves natural resources. Bars of Soap

Plastic Reduction Since 2020, The Breakers has been committed to replacing plastic water bottles and straws throughout the resort. • Phade (marine biodegradable) and Eco-Product corn straws (100% BPI certified compostable) eliminate 1.6M+ plastic straws each year • Aluminum cans* decrease plastic bottle usage by 300,000 units/year *Infinitely recyclable, aluminum can be remade after every use, making it the most environmentally-friendly option for single-use beverage products.

WATER CONSERVATION Reverse Osmosis To protect one of the world’s most precious resources, The Breakers has an onsite reverse osmosis facility that pumps undrinkable well water (located 1,000 feet below the surface) and converts it into irrigated water for our Ocean Golf Course and resort grounds. Sustainability Filter When considering new renovations, purchases and discards, our team is encouraged to pass all initiatives through a Sustainability Filter to ensure decisions meet the standards we strive to uphold. The team explores all donation and responsible reuse opportunities. For example, The Breakers has collaborated with Habitat for Humanity on several recent renovation projects. They assist our construction crew with disassembling items that can be reused in Habitat Homes or sold in Habitat Restore locations.
