The Breakers Recognized among 2023 Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For by Fortune Media® and Great Place To Work®, Ranking No. 65

First independent hotel to make esteemed list

PALM BEACH, FL - The Breakers Palm Beach has announced it has been named one of the 2023 Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For® by Great Place To Work® and Fortune Magazine®, marking the luxury resort’s debut on this prestigious list at No. 65. Founded in 1896 and still under its original family ownership, The Breakers is the only independent hotel to have ever achieved this distinction - a testament to the company’s employee-centered culture and values, as well as its entrepreneurial approach to business.

The Fortune list of 100 Best Companies to Work For® by Great Place To Work® is based on the review of more than a half million, anonymous employee surveys from Great Place To Work Certified™ companies, with a minimum of 1,000 associates. Organizations must complete an extensive, highly competitive application process that includes rigorous benchmarks and in-depth essays about their workplace’s meaningful and innovative support/resources (validated by team member commentary). Honorees reflect a comprehensive picture of the work experience, and were selected based on their ability to offer positive outcomes for employees, regardless of any demographic identifier(s).

A total of 97% of full and part-time team members at The Breakers participated in the Great Place To Work® Employee Opinion Survey; from responses received, 94% agreed that The Breakers is a great place to work. In addition, participants provided the below highlighted feedback:

  • 97% Our customers would rate the service we deliver as excellent
  • 96% This is a physically safe place to work
  • 96%  When you join the company you are made to feel welcome
  • 96%  I am proud to tell others that I work at The Breakers
  • 95%  I feel good about the ways the company contributes to the community

“Each and every one of our 2,300 dedicated and passionate team members fuel the heart & soul of this organization, and collectively, they will always be our greatest asset,” said Paul N. Leone, CEO of The Breakers. “As their professional and personal fulfillment is paramount, we are privileged to invest in a Culture of Care & Well-being that embodies the very essence of hospitality, making The Breakers a Great Place to Work.”

“This philosophy must be attributed to our owners, four generations of family stewards, who have persevered independent of chain affiliation for more than 127 years to continuously evolve this magnificent, 140-acre property and the organization itself,” Leone continued. “Their vision preserves our founder, Henry M. Flagler's legacy: to be a conscientious corporate citizen that prioritizes the well-being of the team, while facing every challenge as an opportunity to raise the bar and positively make a difference in the world around us. We appreciate and are humbled by this incredible honor.”

“It’s in times like these that the best workplaces separate themselves,” said Michael C. Bush, CEO of Great Place To Work. “In a challenging economy, many companies reduce investments in their people and scale back goals for diversity, equity and inclusion. But these companies, the 100 Best, relentlessly pursue a better work experience for every employee, and if anything, double down on the employee experience regardless of title, tenure, gender or ethnicity. These companies know this is how you increase performance, productivity and your innovation velocity when your firm needs it the most,” Bush continued.

“Fortune is pleased to have collaborated once again with Great Place to Work to recognize the 100 Best Companies to Work For,” said Fortune Editor in Chief Alyson Shontell. “We congratulate all the organizations included in this year’s ranking for creating positive work environments and value for their employees, especially during this period of economic uncertainty.”

About The Breakers Palm Beach

One of America’s most iconic resorts, The Breakers is an Italian Renaissance-style hotel, set within 140 acres of oceanfront property on the island of Palm Beach, Florida. Founded in 1896 by magnate Henry M. Flagler, this legendary destination continues to thrive independent of chain affiliation under its original family ownership. Their unrivaled investment, averaging $25 million each year in capital improvements and ongoing revitalization, balances preservation and modernization to sustain multi-generational appeal.

Inspired by the Villa Medici in Rome, the magnificent, eight-story architectural centerpiece features 534 guest rooms and suites, including the ultra-luxury Flagler Club - a boutique, private-access hotel nestled atop of the resort. A bounty of world-class amenities complement The Breakers’ gracious service and unparalleled seaside glamour. Ten distinctive restaurants, ranging from casual beachfront to stylishly sophisticated, showcase talented, award-winning chefs and Master Sommeliers. An exclusive beach club evokes the Mediterranean, with four pools, six whirlpool spas, 25 poolside bungalows and a variety of watersports.
